About the event

Habitats Of The World For Birders

Presented by Iain Campbell

The talk is about the concept behind Habitats of the World, and how to use it as a birder. By understanding bird distribution and abundance based on their habitat, we become much better, and more efficient birders. The book describes habitats in ways that are intuitive to birders, and classifies habitats based on their animal assemblages as well as botany. The world book has been so successful that we are in the process of writing Habitats of Australia, complete with free apps that allow you to search for individual habitats in an area, and see which birds are there as well as their abundance. This is not just a slideshow about forest types, but rather a discussion about how we can add so much to our hobby.

Iain is Australian, but has spent over half his life living in South America and Africa, working as a regolith geochemist and guiding bird tours. He returned to Cairns to live last year.
