Presented by Barry Muir
Barry Muir is a widely travelled and published ecologist and university lecturer who consulted to all levels of government and to private industry before retiring to Cairns. Barry specialises in the interactions between weather, geology, soils, plants and animals and since retirement has directed his interest towards the role of fungi in the environment and in environmental education. Barry’s talk “Fungus and Featheries” will discuss the role of birds in fungus dispersal, how birds use fungi for food and nesting material, fungal diseases and their significance in the evolution of birds, and why bird numbers are declining globally.
