About the event
Come join us for a relaxed morning of birdwatching at Hasties Swamp National Park, a renowned seasonal wetland just south of Atherton. This remarkable site is a magnet for both resident and migratory birds, with more than 220 species recorded over time. The constantly changing mosaic of open water, reeds, muddy edges and sedgeland shifts with the seasons, making every visit a little different and offering something new to discover throughout the year.
Hasties is famous for its excellent two-storey bird hide, which looks directly over the wetland and provides close views of large numbers of waterbirds. From here we often see ducks, spoonbills, ibis, pelicans, crakes and grebes, while the surrounding open eucalypt woodland supports a contrasting suite of bush birds. It’s a fantastic location for improving your identification skills, enjoying photography, or simply soaking up the sights and sounds of a thriving wetland.
