About the event
CORRECTION: This event was previously advertised here as being held from 7:30 pm Thursday, 24 November to 9:00 pm Friday, 25 November. This is incorrect. The event is being held on Thursday, 24 November only, commencing at 7:30 pm. We sincerely apologise for the confusion and any inconvenience caused.
Graham Harrington Student Research Scholarship recipient Henry Stoetzel will be talk about the ecology and conservation status of the Carpentarian Grasswren, as well as some aspects of his PhD research.
Carpentarian Grasswren is an endangered and data deficient species that has suffered declines and local extinctions across much of its range. The RARES (research and recovery of endangered species) group has been studying the species since 2019 and has led to a PhD project which aims to perform targeted ecological research that will benefit current management and facilitate future management and recovery of the species.Â
We are investigating the distribution of the species' habitat and occupancy, population genetics, movement ecology, habitat requirements, threats, and directions for future management and monitoring. This will also include accounts of breeding biology, diet, and social organisation.Â
In this initial talk Henry will cover what we know about the status of the bird and some of our more interesting revelations to date.Â
