BirdLife Northern Queensland invites members and the wider community to a fascinating and highly relevant presentation by renowned Australian waterfowl ecologist and BLNQ member Dr David Roshier.
Dr Roshier’s talk, Bird Movements and the Ecology of Avian Influenza in Australia, explores one of the most significant wildlife conservation issues currently facing Australia. Avian influenza poses a serious threat to wild birds, the poultry industry and potentially human health. While the disease has been extensively studied in the Northern Hemisphere, much less is known about how it may behave in Australia’s unique boom-and-bust environment, where waterbirds can travel vast distances in response to rainfall and changing wetland conditions.
