About the event

Dr Mark Miller will be presenting a fascinating talk for BirdLife Northern Queensland in which he reviews and present details about the actual and potential harm to seabirds from offshore wind turbines. Despite having some of the world’s best potential sites for offshore wind turbines, Australia has yet to develop such resources. In Europe, and North America, much more work has been completed using offshore wind turbines and Dr Miller will be presenting information about studies on wildlife mortality.

 

The topic is highly topical because here in northern Queensland there are already serious concerns about wind turbine impacts on both mammals and birds. Evidence is accumulating that some species are severely threatened by wind turbines of the existing design and many people fear for the survival of some species.
