About the event
Join BirdLife Northern Queensland for Wave the Waders Goodbye, a special afternoon celebrating the remarkable migratory shorebirds that visit the Cairns Esplanade each year before departing on their epic journey to the Northern Hemisphere.
The event will begin with afternoon talks at 2:00 pm at Cairns City Library meeting room, followed by a guided wader-watching session on the Esplanade from 4:30 – 5:30 pm, timed to coincide with optimal viewing conditions.
Each year, the Cairns mudflats provide a vital refuelling stop for migratory waders as they prepare for one of the longest migrations in the natural world. Wave the Waders Goodbye is an opportunity to learn more about these extraordinary birds, the importance of Cairns’ coastal habitats, and to farewell them as they head north to breed.
Talk topics are currently being finalised, with further details to be announced.
More details coming soon.
