About the event
The migratory birds that have spent the past spring and summer on our shores are just about to return to their northern breeding grounds. This event is a great opportunity to farewell the birds and to learn about these visitors and other local shorebirds which rely heavily on the quality feeding grounds provided by our beautiful Cairns Esplanade.
2:00–4:00 pm Guest speaker talks:
"Breeding biology of Beach Stone-curlews in Wet Tropics" by Paul Fisk. This talk will update us with more findings about Beach Stone-curlews in Wet Tropics.
"Cairns' place in the National Directory of Important Migratory Shorebird Habitat " by Sally Sheldon from BirdLife Australia.
4:30 – 5:30pm
Move to Cairns Esplanade for viewing waders.
