Survey Birds. Support Science. Win an unforgettable wildlife adventure!

Do you enjoy birdwatching, exploring the rainforest, and contributing to conservation? Join birders across the Wet Tropics in the Birds With Altitude Challenge Competition and help monitor how climate change is affecting our unique rainforest birds. Every survey contributes valuable citizen science data and brings you one step closer to winning an incredible wildlife experience.



🏆 Win a private wildlife tour


Have you always wanted to see a Golden Bowerbird, an elusive owl, a tree-kangaroo, platypus or another Wet Tropics specialty? Thanks to renowned naturalist and wildlife guide Alan Gillanders, the winner will receive:


  • A customised 4-hour wildlife tour for up to three people

  • Tailored to your interests

  • Guided by one of North Queensland's most respected naturalists


Prize valid until 30 June 2027.





📋 How to enter


Between 1 July and 30 November 2026:


  1. Conduct surveys

    Complete either BirdLife Australia's 2-hectare, 20-minute surveys or  500-metre area searches

  2. Enter your data

    Upload all surveys to Birdata.

  3. Survey more and increase your chances!


The participant completing the highest number of valid surveys wins.



📍 Eligible survey areas


Surveys must be completed within these Key Biodiversity Areas:


  • Atherton Tablelands

  • Coastal Wet Tropics

  • Daintree

  • Paluma

  • Wooroonooran

🥇 Who wins?


The participant completing the highest number of valid surveys during the competition period will be declared the winner. All survey records must be entered into Birdata by 1 December 2026. The winner will be announced before Christmas 2026.
