Birds With Altitude 2023 Challenge

Join the challenge


BirdLife Northern Queensland has two family passes to Mamu Tropical Skywalk and two passes, each for two adults to Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to give away in our Birds With Altitude 2023 Challenge.


All you need to do is get out there and complete BirdLife Australia compatible surveys in our Wet Tropics key biodiversity areas (KBAs) between 1 June and 31 December 2023. The surveys must be entered in Birdata no later than 1 January 2024.


The competition winners will be:

  1. The person who completes the most BirdLife Australia compatible 2 ha, 20 min area search surveys and/or 500 m area search surveys in Wooroonooran National Park and enters the surveys into Birdata (prize is a family pass to Mamu Tropical Skywalk).

  2. The person who completes the most BirdLife Australia 2 ha, 20 min area search surveys and/or 500 m area search surveys in any of the Wet Tropics key biodiversity areas (prize is a family pass to Mamu Tropical Skywalk).

  3. The person who completes the most BirdLife Australia compatible 2 ha, 20 min area search surveys and/or 500 m area search surveys at sites 800 m or more above sea level, in any of the Wet Tropics key biodiversity areas (prize is a pass for two adults to Skyrail Rainforest Cableway).

  4. Drawn from the pool of people who complete at least six surveys (2 ha, 20 min area search surveys and/or 500 m area search surveys) at the same site in Wooroonooran National Park. Note that surveys must - be at least 3 weeks apart (prize is a pass for two adults to Skyrail Rainforest Cableway).

Where / Which biodiversity areas?


The Wet Tropics KBAs: Atherton KBA, Coast Wet Tropics KBA, Daintree KBA, Paluma KBA and/or Wooroonooran KBA. There are prizes just for surveys in Wooroonooran National Park too.
